Newly drafted Washington Wizard Bradley Beal (@RealDealBeal23) was unveiled to the Washington Dc media today less than 24 hours after being drafted number 3 in last nights NBA draft. Flanked by Wizards Head Coach Randy Wittman and General Manager Ernie Grunfeld, everyone in the room got a chance to see a very energetic Beal being put into the major sports spotlight.
Right before the draft, rumors circulated that teams might trade up to the second spot to get Beal or that the Wizards would entertain offers, but in the end Grunfeld and company got their man. “This is the guy we wanted all along” said head coach Wittman.
GM Grunfeld said “He can stretch the defense for us and be part of our young core, we think we’ll have a very bright future with him”
Both Wittman and Grunfeld stressed that getting young and character driven players was a focus clearly seeing the fall out of players on the team previously.
Beal himself was very energetic after his work out (his first he noted) “Ever since I left the workout, I thought I’d end up here. I can’t wait to get started” Beal told the crowd. And get started soon he will as he begins preparations for next months summer league in Las Vegas. Also he noted he will be wearing number 3 instead of 23 as a Wizard.
Beal and his parents were also alongside him as his jersey was brought out for everyone to see along with a birthday cake.
Take a listen to the one on one conversations myself and others had with Beal after the main press conference was over.
